The Story of Our Hive

Buzzin Bees Necessities began the same way many meaningful things do — unexpectedly, and with heart.

In 2021, just after the height of COVID, owner Stephen Handford first stepped into beekeeping while learning to make mead at home. Wanting to source his own honey rather than buy it, he started with a few hives — and quickly discovered a passion he never expected. What began as a simple experiment turned into a deep respect for the bees, the process, and the connection to nature that comes with caring for them.

As the hives grew, so did the beeswax — and with it, new ideas. Friends and family began asking for handmade lip balms, body butters, soaps, and wax melts. With careful research, testing, and intention, Stephen began developing his own original recipes, thoughtfully crafted from the ground up. Every product he makes today is created with purpose and intention — never copied, never rushed.

In January 2025, Buzzin Bees Necessities was officially established as a family-run small business. Today, Stephen proudly runs the company alongside his father, Doug Handford, making Buzzin Bees a true father-and-son duo. Together, they blend tradition, creativity, and craftsmanship into everything they make.

By day, Stephen is a beekeeper.
By night, he’s a paramedic, serving his community in emergency medical services since 2014. Caring for others isn’t just a profession — it’s a way of life — and that same care carries into every product we create.

We use ingredients sourced from companies that value ethical practices and sustainability, selecting each component with intention and respect for both people and the environment. From whipping body butters to pouring wax melts, every item is handcrafted with attention, care, and pride.

Doug Handford is the steady hand behind the hive. As both a father and a partner in the business, Doug brings support, insight, and an extra set of hands wherever they’re needed — from helping behind the scenes to lending guidance and perspective built through years of hard work. His presence keeps the hive running smoothly and grounded in the values that matter most: family, integrity, and doing things the right way.
